Milan, September 28 – A rare circular-cut, natural “Very Light-Pink” diamond (VVS1 clarity) was auctioned off at 700.000 euros during the Aste Bolaffi jewelry and watch auction on September 27 in Milan, becoming the all-time top lot in the auction house’s history. The winning bidder, at this record price, was an important European jeweler that killed the competition after a fierce battle in the saleroom and also with phone and Internet bids pouring in.
“Satisfaction was double – declared CEO Filippo Bolaffi – both for the outstanding result of this lot and for our auction house being able to sell in Italy, for a world-class proce, an item which is normally sold abroad”.
The whole sale was worth 2 million euros. Amongst the other highlights are a ring with a non-heated Burmese ruby of 5 carats (62.500 euros), a ring with a pear-shaped diamond of 6,39 carats (D color, VVS1 clarity, 225.000 euros), and a ring with an old European-cut diamond weighing over 18 carats (220.000 euros).
A huge success also marked the debut of the watch department, that presented a unique pocket watches collection, where over 90% of the lots sold for a total of 340.000 euros.
